Since these monster eat garbage then people are not part of there menu unless they are dead. They help keep the dungeon from being overwhelmed by dead bodies rotten food and other messes left by adventurers. Lets hope Randulf does not smell so bad as too be mistaken for its food.
Yeah Colleen should indeed take the next opportunity to read whatever monster manuals or exploration journals they have up in town.
Being ignorant isn't shameful - staying ignorant is.
So they're basically giant, overgrown maggots with 3 eyes and 3 legs and a tail?
I can't imagine why this many pages are being spent on an otyugh encounter, though. There's got to be some plot significance to this... What could this setup possibly be? An otyugh nest with treasure sitting on top of a mountain of dung, and they have to somehow get past the otyugh(s) to reach the treasure? Or the otyugh is guarding something valuable / sinister? Or they get cornered between an otyugh and carnivorous fairies that have found another way into this part of the dungeon? Food for thought... Chekhov's dung. :-D
OTYUGH: Garbage Eating Monster. What a fascinating creature!
Scenes like this bring back that sense of wonder and surprise that I had when I first watched Star Wars in the theaters as a 7 year old boy. This comic is turning out to be really good. It would be cool if became an animated series!

Also, can't tell you what's going to happen next, sorry :)
