Not sure if it has been mentioned, but our current party seems somewhat more experienced than our girl. [they have at least a vague idea what these critters are, and have equipment that at least hints at previous action or greater resources, while she had to buy when she got there.]
So back home, she may have been the little kid trying to force her way into the gang of big kids, which would make their willingness to dump her much more reasonable.
Worstcase 10th Apr 2018, 11:08 AM edit delete reply
No, that looks like Ozzi and Ox have some experience fighting froblins, though Ozzi was also not able to identify which monster species the huge tooth he discovered belongs to - or at least the size of the monster it was attached to.
Elfboy seems not to know anything beside the name and habitat about Froblins(for example from which direction to start a surprise attack on them). That would be comparable to knowing Orks and Goblins exist in their world.

And their equipment doesn't look that much more special than normal for a starting party. The only two things standing out are the knight's armor (which only means her family is rich enough to send her to fighting training and pay off the neccessary equipment) or the unusual looking arrows elfboy is using (which he could have easily found during their first visit of the dungeon) we don't even know what they are supposed to do yet.
Colleen brings magical + weapon training and disciplin instead. Bringing no weapons or armor may have simply been a problem of availability for her. Non magical weapons might simply be cheaper near the dungeon than on the countryside.

This makes me wonder what Orcs in this universe look like. Maybe if Goblins are combined with Frogs, then Orcs are combined with Toads.

That would make them...Torks?

Orcs look like this in Marblegate:

Ah! So when they clock in or out, they press their belly against the palm scanner, and it reads their unique tattoo. Can't be to careful going in and out of a secure dungeon.

Froblins on the other hand, just repeatedly bash their heads against the security door, until somebody gets tired of the noise and lets them through. They're also the ones to leave a quarter inch of coffee in the break-room coffee pot. Nobody likes froblins.

Nothing here really challenges the picture of the kindergarden kid trying to get in with the 1st graders. Ozzi and friends may or may not have much experience, but they seem to have some, while Coleen is a total novice who buys armor and arms, the things her life will depend on, because they look nice. She has had several good ideas, but ideas, especially those of a novice, are routinely bad, if not plain terrible. They are reasons to dump a novice before she kills herself, or you.
Worstcase 11th Apr 2018, 10:33 AM edit delete reply
But then you are seeing her role in the party wrong. She is not there to be their tank, she was supposed to bethe healer. It is not her job in the party to be either the heavy hitter or the meatshield, it is to keep the others alive with spells - for which she brought the neccessary equipment.
Besides who said those other 'experienced' adventurers as you call that party - which I don't believe for a second aside from Ozzi and Ox - may have bought their equipment mostly in marblegate town as well. And are you really thinking knight girl didn't pick that armor for the looks?
Then remember that Ozzi one of those in the party who actually has some experience, was the one who actually agreed to take Colleen along.
Besides, why do you keep comparing a fully trained combat cleric to a kindergardener, just because this is her first adventure and she had to buy the equipment is beyond me.
David Argall 11th Apr 2018, 10:35 PM edit delete reply
Actually, it is the cleric's job to be the [backup, preferably backup-backup] tank. Just had a case a few weeks ago when the cleric had to be front-line. [Our fighter vanished for the night.] that was no fun for the cleric, and we were glad to see the fighter the next session, but the cleric had the best AC and hp. and that is not unusual.
And Coleen is not much of a healer. She may be much better even soon, but she starts with 3 spells, Light, Cure Lite, and Shield. One serious fight and her magic is used up. So when we add that she has never been in a fight before, we are looking at a low value recruit.
Now we don't know the level of the large party, but all our hints suggest more than Coleen-novice. Madam Knight for example could be a pampered rich kid who stole the family armor when her parents told her she was too much of a novice to go. Or she could be a highly trained adventurer of many levels or anywhere in between. We don't know, and assuming she is bottom rung is not wise.
Ozzi is deemed to have some experience, but who would he be likely to attract as companions? mostly the same level as himself. Higher levels would scorn him and he would scorn lower levels. So the others are likely about as experienced as he is. Note too that when Coleen is rejected, Ozzi goes along, a lack of action that is inconsistent with his being much higher level. Indeed, nobody in the group shows much dominance, which again suggests nobody is much higher or lower level.
So why did he pick Coleen? We could be talking boy-girl. Some might question how hot she is, but we boys are often not fussy. Optimistically assuming Coleen would be easy, he offers her a place in the party, only to be told by the others that they are not risking their lives so he can have a piece.
And we come to the point of why they did reject Coleen. A novice party is not likely to reject a novice cleric.

Great discussion! Sadly I can't contribute without spoiling anything.
Worstcase 12th Apr 2018, 9:17 AM edit delete reply
I think it went a bit different. I mean look at their party the girl in the armor is a knight, not a paladin = no spells = no healing. The elfboy - if he is a ranger - might learn a healing spell on a higher level, but so far there has been no hint he has any already.
Their party had no healer at the time Colleen 'joined' up with them until the time they got to Marblegate and took up Alexus the alchemist.
Now which profession the free hireable adventurers in Marblegate town have is kind of a lottery - I mean even if for example the druid girl has healing spells, I doubt that they are all vegetarians. Though deathcultist kid might have healing spells - I wouldn't count on it honestly.

Where am I going here? Would they have entered Marblegate without a healer in the party?

Probably not, cause they are not completely stupid.

They had no healer, they didn't know if there would be any available at Marblegate town (since likely they would be the first to be hired (aside deathcultist kid))
So I think that they (Ozzi) talked Colleen into coming along as their backup. So in case they wouldn't find a healer in Marblegate they wouldn't lose time waiting indefinitely until one showed up. And that they ALWAYS meant to ditch Colleen as soon as they found someone 'better'.
As I said I don't hold it against Colleen that she had no fighting equipment until arrival. She came on a cart with a farmer who wasn't wearing even a leather armor and apparently they didn't encounter a single wandering monster/bandit along the road. The area outside Marblegate Colleen comes from may actually be relatively peaceful, which means that not every small country town has a well supplied weaponshop or that the weapons and armor there is vastly overpriced due to lack of crafting materials. Then it would be indeed wiser to save the money until reaching Marblegate for better quality, better fit and better price (= more equipment for the same money).

Both have good shots but they should wait for him to stop moving. The elf should know better not to shoot at a side moving target. You are more likely to miss your shot then if your shooting at the target coming to you or moving away from you.

I will bet you that they both shoot at the same time and the shots interfere with each other.

Elfboy is missing a vital detail: That froblin boss is looking directly into his direction (toad eyes) and will be able to dodge his arrow, if he hasn't been spotted already anyway. and in that coincidentally dodge Ozzie's bolt as well.
perfect way to mess up that little plan of theirs.
Rocktopus 10th Apr 2018, 4:07 PM edit delete reply

Technically, the second that Elfboy stepped out from behind the corner he got spotted by the Red Froblin with the Skull.

But then again, Ozzi literally just said that they have the worst awareness of any creatures he's ever seen.

If they didn't notice that...

Collen and Randulf have Packpacks for the loot (becouse of Randulf - but hey....)

Lets see how our expirienced Party kill themselves...

Trying to get a handle on where these guys are at - what happened to that grate/window thing in the 2nd panel? I'm expecting it to be right behind the bow in the 4th panel (and maybe a tiny bit showing in the 3rd), or is that a different wall that the archer is shown against?
Might be that they moved to a different wall since in the 2nd panel there's a peak in the molding (or whatever that is) on the wall right on the corner, but the wall in the 4th has the peak not on the corner. Or maybe there's something else magicky in the dungeon I don't remember haha

Or maybe I'm just totally wrong on their positioning!

Anyway, my first comment so I gotta say this whole comic is great stuff so far! I only found stuff to nitpick because I keep coming back to this page hoping for the next one :]

No clearly defined leader. Too many chiefs and not enough indians. Either that, or this Elf Archer is just an asshole. But it appears the entire party lacks focus and discipline, and experience.
