It was a good shot, though.

Remember, tracers and arrows both have the same flaw. The enemy can tell where you are.
Rocktopus 14th Apr 2018, 5:19 PM edit delete reply
Yup, looks like the stealth option is off the table now
padanew 15th Apr 2018, 4:33 AM edit delete reply
At first it was all sneaking and stealth then it was swords and screaming.

At first it was all sneaking and breekin then it was Viper and cykas.

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

In some parties, the plan also does not survive contact with your allies.

Almost makes you wonder if it would have been better to just not tell him at all

I just reread this whole thing. I knew I loved this comic, but I had managed to forget how amazing some bits of it are.

I just pledged to you on Patreon. It's not much, but every dollar gets us closer to your goal, nu?
Rocktopus 14th Apr 2018, 7:03 PM edit delete reply
Wow! Thank you so much! I really, really appreciate that!

I'm thankful people like Marblegate enough to want to support it.

Who's the woman in the face mask? I love her design and she's hot as hell (she looks better without the helm than with it) She's a paladin, I'll guess?
Rocktopus 14th Apr 2018, 9:43 PM edit delete reply
Her name will be mentioned soon, but it's Marigold. She's just a fighter; not a paladin.

Glad you like her design; It's probably my favorite in their group.
Guest 15th Apr 2018, 12:34 AM edit delete reply
Tempted to steal her. I'd never thought of someone wearing a facemask (instead of a sculpted helm) like that to look more threatening...

So Froblins apparently have either some very thick layers of fat under a very tough skin on their backs, a lot bigger bones in the way or simply no vulnerable organs in that area?
Rocktopus 14th Apr 2018, 9:42 PM edit delete reply
(A) Layers of fat
(B) Big thick bones
(C) No vital organs in back of head
(D) All of the Above.
DaveP 15th Apr 2018, 1:55 AM edit delete reply
Plus remember, in the Really Real World a lot of critters are fairly resistant to shock caused by simple puncture even if it’s in a vital organ. This can be annoying when it means having to chase a heart-shot deer a couple of hundred yards before it decides to quit; if what you’re dealing with is on the Big Five it can mean serious problems.
Worstcase 15th Apr 2018, 11:32 AM edit delete reply
From second to last panel it looks like that arrow would have more or less hit the back of the Froblin's mouth, so if neither brain or spine got in the way there really isn't much that is life threatening.

A Crossbow packs the kind of power needed here. A simple bow would have, and did, just piss it off. Having shot medieval based crossbows, I can tell you how amazing they are in terms of penetration. My 60 pound draw English Long Bow had nothing on a crossbow.
verycoolname 15th Apr 2018, 3:12 AM edit delete reply
Cross bows were invented because somebody thought it would be neat if a half trained peasant could kill a knight in full armor... Crossbows are easy to use and scary good at punching through armor.
Guest 15th Apr 2018, 6:02 AM edit delete reply
So good they were forbidden to use on good Christian folk.
DaveP. 15th Apr 2018, 1:03 PM edit delete reply
Pretty much anything that could allow a peasant/common citizen to perforate a knight at a distance was banned at one time or another. The nobility had Opinions about scruffy commoners being allowed to resist the will of their betters.
Plus ca change...

What the Elf failed to remember, sneak attacks only work when one is actually sneaking. Standing doesn't activate sneak.

Sneak attacks also only work if your class has that ability, depending on the rule setting of course.

I get the feeling that we're going to see how far Froblins can jump in a few seconds.

Maybe we'll see what that Frog in the cage will do.

Don't just stand there with your mouth open! Shoot it again! (a) You might kill it (b) incoming fire from two different directions will confuse the enemy.

We(me and my father) have build some unconventional arrows for our bow, but that thing the Romulan is using is sure to do more damage to the Bow than the Target.

If we made a list of all the things that are unconventional in this scene, we'd be hear all night

Clearly Ozzi was going for sneak attack damage, whereas Sera's measly 1d8 from a regular bow attack wasn't enough on its own.
Grim 16th Apr 2018, 3:11 PM edit delete reply
Would Ozzi have gone for an ear or an eyeball shot? His positing indicates he knew the back of the beastie wouldn't cut it.
Rocktopus 16th Apr 2018, 10:23 PM edit delete reply
Eyes, more likely
Elderac 16th Apr 2018, 3:51 PM edit delete reply
As a rogue, Ozzi should be able to get sneak attack damage, if he is not discovered before he can shoot.
