I hate when hate groups steal items of clothing or culture for the sake of hate.

I'm more sad that the 100-year-old American version is the one most people recognize the pointed hats as, and not the 1000-year-old Spanish tradition.

There's a whole lot of things that were used for hundreds or even thousands of years but then got wrecked by being associated with the bad guys.

For example, the swastika used to be a holy symbol that represented the sun. Nazis adopted it as their logo because of its long historic symbolism but now it's only known as a Nazi thing.

Penitent 1: Do you think that wearing Red and Black is a good idea? I mean, all villains like those colors...

Penitent 2: Nah man, there's nooo way that this could possibly make us look evil!
Rocktopus 31st Aug 2018, 1:37 AM edit delete reply
Penitents don't exactly get a choice in what they have to wear :P

Penitents feel bad about themselves, that's pretty much the basic meaning of penitence. So...
David Argall 4th Sep 2018, 11:21 PM edit delete reply
Conversation... Penitents were often assigned vows of silence, so these penitents? may be be fakes, maybe in evil league with the odd guards. Maybe one of the other countries has decided that the current system could be "improved" even if most of the other countries don't agree. Or ... they are being careful about something getting out of Marblegate. Maybe with good reason, and these are monsters about to spread evil?
Of course, our gal talks to them and expects an answer, but as a cleric, she might have the right to lift their vow, at least briefly.
Rocktopus 5th Sep 2018, 3:50 AM edit delete reply
Not every penitent in this world needs to take one, but even when they do, vows of silence are permitted to be broken if it's important church business.

Do you really want to know what goes on in the dark corners of a church? You may not want to know. (Playing graveyard keeper right now. Give it a try then decide if you want to answer that question.)

Father Kendal's anime figurine collection must not found, at any cost

It starts with you wondering what the Church is hiding in dark corners and ends with you nailing 95 theses to the Church door.

Did someone try to steal the church bells???
Bookeater_otaku 31st Aug 2018, 10:12 AM edit delete reply
If it's like any D&D session, the adventurers are probably stealing everything that's not nailed down. The church is obviously tired of having to retrieve the at the pawn shop so of course they put guards which make adventurers want to steal it even MORE.

It's quite the vicious circle.

What sort of D&D party steals a Church Bell! That’s sure to get a hefty bounty on their heads!
Rocktopus 31st Aug 2018, 2:56 PM edit delete reply
That's the folly of advertising yourself as an Adventuring town
padanew 31st Aug 2018, 5:11 PM edit delete reply
*buff check* We are here to check to see if the bells are ringing properly. If they are not we take them back to the shop and make them ring properly.

Two Grand Masters thinking up a strategy in an unconventional place? Solid maybe.

Not for a little while yet. But there will be eventually!

On the subject of new PCs... We don't have a mage yet. Of course mages are assumed to be quite smart, and the dungeon quite deadly, so there might be a connection there. There are at least a lot of safer jobs around town. Still, there do seem to be some mages in the background here and there who look to be adventurers, so a mage joining the party is worth considering too.
