I think she may have *just* failed her roll...

Most gms I have played with ham up exactly failing much more than a crit failure.

Grey Garou
Hoooooboy. Tell me again why she chose Marblegate in the first place?
Gabrielli 3rd Nov 2018, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
Well, most people don't think that they're the "scared" type until they face something truly scary.
Rocktopus 4th Nov 2018, 11:32 PM edit delete reply
All the other dungeons were busy?

That thing is so gross. ... and it's growing mushrooms? Or is a mushroom. That's so dang weird.
Leatherhead 4th Nov 2018, 9:57 PM edit delete reply
Could be a gas spore then.
Lurker 5th Nov 2018, 6:48 PM edit delete reply
It could be worse than a gas spore. It could be a ... spore spore. I.e., a thing that explodes with spores that when inevitably inhaled will sprout fungus in you and make mushrooms grow out of your ears.

Eye goop and zits are not a good look for anyone!

Try imagining it's that Ozwald fellow.

Aaaaaaand contact as her foot brushes a mushroom. It's going to be a spore-a-licious good time...
Crinos 4th Nov 2018, 4:48 AM edit delete reply
Alternatively its a Shrieker. Which means every monster in that area of the dungeon is gonna know she's there in a second.
Worstcase 4th Nov 2018, 9:45 PM edit delete reply
Now that would be redundant - Colleen already screamed at the top of her lungs just two pages back.
Rocktopus 4th Nov 2018, 11:33 PM edit delete reply
She seems about to step over the line in the floor, too...
someone 3rd Nov 2018, 11:21 PM edit delete reply
Shroomholder doesn't seem to care much. It did turn its eyes to Colleen, so it's not completely unresponsive, but its response to her speech seems to be "don't care, got my own problems".

The tiny shroom Colleen is touching seems to be a much bigger threat here.
Rocktopus 4th Nov 2018, 11:34 PM edit delete reply
Actually, she's not touching that mushroom, look at the shadow! I'm gonna edit that pane la tiny bit to make it clearer.

She IS however, about to step on the line in the floor...
padanew 4th Nov 2018, 3:44 AM edit delete reply
Most people don't have to deal with the hard rush of adrenalin so most people think of it as fear. Experienced people realize after some time that the rush they get in a bad situation isn't fear. She has proven herself to be brave in a fight. Also she has shown clear thinking in an emergency so all she needs now is training and experience.
Rocktopus 4th Nov 2018, 11:36 PM edit delete reply
Randulf DID say back in chapter 1 that she was going to learn the way a dwarf does... brutally!
Rodryg 4th Nov 2018, 9:20 AM edit delete reply
Its some kind of mushroom/fungus zombie isnt he ? Collete gonna step into mushroom trap next page ?
That or he's so sick that he cant hear a word that she is saying and wonder what that human want from him :P
Worstcase 4th Nov 2018, 10:11 AM edit delete reply
(Would comment but am busy to hold my breath as of not to inhale the oncoming cloud of killer mushroom spores, that is about to erupt from that tiny fungus Colleen touched.)
Rocktopus 4th Nov 2018, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
She didn't quite touch that one. That's a bit of a conveyance mistake on my part.

She IS, however, about to step over that line in the floor....
Lurker 5th Nov 2018, 6:57 PM edit delete reply
Ominous! What manner of devious trap will be sprung by that well-hidden trigger?
Rudofaux 5th Nov 2018, 5:04 AM edit delete reply
"C'mon lass, I ain't ga all day!" -Randulf's face
David Argall 5th Nov 2018, 7:10 AM edit delete reply
Ops, is the beholder just a distraction?
ThorinSchmidt 5th Nov 2018, 4:35 PM edit delete reply
I'd say that is a spectator, even though traditionally they only have 4 eyes plus the big one i think? They are lawful, and work as sentries for wizards a lot. as long as you don't go after what they are protecting, they tend to ignore you.
Rocktopus 5th Nov 2018, 4:50 PM edit delete reply
Seems to check out!
MajorDZaster 30th Mar 2019, 12:30 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, this one's gonna go psycho guard dog the moment Colleen's toe cap touches down on the line, which I assume is an invisible boundary the spectator was instructed to guard.
Grim 5th Nov 2018, 5:23 PM edit delete reply
Oh no! "Step on a crack, break your mother's back!!!" Her mom is in mortal peril!
Grim 5th Nov 2018, 5:25 PM edit delete reply
Also; love the hands holding eyeballs as opposed to traditional eye-stalks. Great twist on a classic monster
Lurker 5th Nov 2018, 6:52 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, it puts the "holder" in "beholder" in a meta-pun that can only be truly appreciated by a punster like myself. :D

Also, totally love how Rocktopus managed to convey passive incredulity with mere eyeballs held by tiny arm-stalks. The expressiveness of a mere eyeball here is pretty impressive.
ThorinSchmidt 6th Nov 2018, 3:47 PM edit delete reply
except of course, it's not a beholder. not even really a beholderkin. it's a creature from the plane of Law, I think. maybe they changed that part for 5e?
Grim 8th Nov 2018, 6:02 AM edit delete reply
Just wait till the next room where each hand is holding a large angry honey bee... the "Bee-holder" is the most terrifying of all dnd monsters
stevie 7th Nov 2018, 3:34 PM edit delete reply

It has a serious case of "Pink eye".
