Things are never as simple as we believe. We only start seeing the complexity as we become adults.

Don't know why I wasn't longed in.

A lesser artist would have illustrated that farm completely flat, but you added all kinds of beautiful curvature to it. Bravo.
Rocktopus 15th Mar 2019, 5:23 PM edit delete reply
What would an Ireland-inspired land be without rolling hills? :)
Thracecius 15th Mar 2019, 5:33 PM edit delete reply
A lovely page! The bird flying in the first panel was a nice touch of detail too, giving the scene a little more dimension than the already apparent terrain variations. Time for a little reflection from our heroine? :)
Rocktopus 15th Mar 2019, 6:43 PM edit delete reply
Yup! That's what this chapter is about

Photomaginarium 15th Mar 2019, 5:46 PM edit delete reply
rockin' start to the chapter ... love that huge bird, bigger than any building ... is it a gargantuan-sized chickadee? hahahah, just kidding ... ok, no, really, is it mammoth-sized? does it think people's heads are just another crunchy kind of bird seed?
Rocktopus 15th Mar 2019, 6:43 PM edit delete reply
lol nah, it's just in the foreground

Plot twist; Marblegate takes place in the American flyover states
Lurker 15th Mar 2019, 9:29 PM edit delete reply
In that case, I'd be curious to know the current location of the gate of Marblegate. Just in case, y'know, I might want to make a quick buck off it. But then I expect this information would be classified anyway. :-D

Do you offer art tutorials in your Patreon page?
Rocktopus 15th Mar 2019, 11:13 PM edit delete reply
Not currently, but is that something people would want?

What would you want to learn?
chris-tar 16th Mar 2019, 12:11 AM edit delete reply
Well, if it wasn't giving away any trade secrets, I would like to see how you illustrate a comic page like this one from start to finish. Perhaps you could record yourself and narrate?

Furthermore, you could also critic others work that they submit and give advice that could help improve their art...
Rocktopus 16th Mar 2019, 12:16 AM edit delete reply
Hm... I'll see what I can do when I can get some time. Right now I'm trying to get caught up on pages.
chris-tar 16th Mar 2019, 12:22 AM edit delete reply
Of course, it is just a suggestion... and you could charge for the art critiques. And you could place your art tutorials higher up in your Patreon reward tree so that they would have to be "Un-Locked".

Things I'd like to know (And Everybody Else for That Matter):
1) What art programs do you use?
2) What brushes do you use and on what settings?
3) What kind of art tablet and its settings?
4) Why do you choose certain colors?
5) Techniques for creating backgrounds and environments, like how you make a tree, a rock, a mountain, a dungeon wall, etc etc...
6) Your thoughts on lighting.
7) Your character creation process from start to finish, including people, monsters, and animals...
8) The top 5-10 things that concern you most when making a drawing or painting on the computer (which may be very different than mine).
9) How you make a sketch or rough draft of a comic page.
10) Your inspiration for the various types of weapons and armor you choose and how you draw them.
11) Your story telling techniques and personality development.
12) ...more to come...

Well I have an old speedpaint here:

It might answer a few of those questions! Though I'll look into making some how-to's in the future.

Ways you can make money with Marble Gate Merchandise.
Sell T-Shirts, Mouse Pads, Pinback Buttons of all your characters.
You can actually buy your own hand press button machine on ebay, print out the art from home, and make your own buttons yourself. The buttons could be a reward on Patreon, or you could sell them for like $3 each or more plus shipping and handling. You could sell them in sets too and at Comic-Cons.
You could sell signed prints and original artwork as well. You could even sign the buttons!
You could also run a successful Marble Gate Kickstarter! And sell in-comic Cameos for like $200-$300 each! I have seen them go as high as $1000!

Superb country side. Love the level of detail and how all the building are not simply copy paste of the others but all have their own little stories to them.

Like only two seems to have outhouse and one has is reallyyyy near the home so the smell must be lovely on a hot day. ^_^,
Rocktopus 16th Mar 2019, 4:27 AM edit delete reply
Hot day? In Ireland (or at least an Irish-themed country?)
Perish the thought!

But thanks! I don't like copy-pasting within the same panel if I can avoid it.

These guys are farmers. They are immune to bad smells (at least of a biological origin).

...looks like Ireland...
...feels like Ireland...
...but my 'inner ear' hears the 'Shire-Theme' from L.o.t.R. too...! ;-)
Rocktopus 21st Mar 2019, 2:41 AM edit delete reply

I think the Shire pretty much is Ireland
Sturzkampf 22nd Mar 2019, 9:38 PM edit delete reply
Nah, it's Tolkein's romanticised idea of rural England.

Those would be stone walls - but the art in this Chapter only shows basic wooden fences :)
