Boy that elf sure is an inconsiderate, shallow snob, and I bet those two guys would lie to kickizass....

a textbook case of Neutral Stupid Syndrome coupled with foot-in-mouth disease
Nerf Climate Change 21st Feb 2020, 5:50 PM edit delete reply
I don't think this counts as neutral stupid, that's when you are a neutral character and use that to not have any opinions on anything. This doesn't really fall anywhere in the classic stupid alignment apart from true stupid.

For anyone that doesn't know:
Lawful stupid - Follow a code without thinking for yourself
Neutral stupid - Don't make any decisions and barely interact with the game in general.
Chaotic stupid - Do things because they are random and random things are funny.
True stupid - Just be an idiot.
Oldarmourer 21st Feb 2020, 9:28 PM edit delete reply
to me 'Neutral Stupid' is almost the same as 'Neutral Evil'

thinking only of yourself and what you think is right at the time with no consideration for the feelings or wants of others but not actively trying to hurt them in the process, just not taking that into account and still possibly feeling bad if it blows up in your face but not really understanding why anyone would be upset over it

I consider it to be noticeably different from chaotic stupid in that you actually have a twisted reason for doing or saying something instead of just the proverbial 'it seemed like a good idea at the time' when no thought at all was given to whether or not it was

'Neutral Stupid' ends up apologizing a lot for things they don't understand why they have to... :)

I like the how the light play out in the room. You get a feeling that evening is settling in and that there isn't much light comming in from the barred windows above. There is no electric bulb here and people depends on candles and wicks to provide illumination in building when the sun don't provide. Too many author forget to account for this and show even light across the pages and make the characters perfectly visible. Good job.

That Elf is going to be the end of this group I swear. No tact and a cultural clash that he is not equipped to handle. I bet Ozzie and Ox will be "Let's never talk about this so it don't blow up in our face" but the alchemist is like "Wow, wait until the guys at the pup hear about this!"

And I remember something the war banker said a few page back, that he have been a war banker for almost 70 years? Does that mean he has been doing this since the time the Marble Gates Dungeon appeared or almost all of it?
Bookeater_otaku 21st Feb 2020, 5:25 PM edit delete reply
Woops. He actually said that it was thrice as long as the knight lived, not 70 years... Probably around 90 to 100 years then. So my idea that he have set up shop here since the gate appeared is still valid.

she only looks to be in her early 20's so maybe the Marblegate has another eight or ten years left in this location ?

Oldarmourer
hmmm assuming he wasn't set up and ready to go with the Marblegate's appearance and it's 75 year 'lifespan' then it might be ready to fade away any time now...
hopefully not with our heroes inside...or maybe it would be better for them if they were and got another 75 years to mine it's treasure somewhere else ?
Oldarmourer 22nd Feb 2020, 1:22 AM edit delete reply
ah, i misremembered...it doesn't appear for 75 years, it appears for a 'hundred or so' and it appeared 75 years ago

regarding that elf. Richard the lionhearted died due to an arrow wound because he forgot to wear his armor in a battle
Oldarmourer 22nd Feb 2020, 1:26 AM edit delete reply
I can't see armour being something you 'forget'...decide not to wear, maybe...I think I'd notice if I'd 'forgotten' it :)

apparently he was hit in the shoulder with a crossbow bolt and the wound turned gangrenous...Marigold can tell you about that ;)
MajorDZaster 22nd Feb 2020, 4:57 AM edit delete reply
And so it begins.
David Argall 22nd Feb 2020, 5:54 AM edit delete reply
Re Richard the lion-hearted, the man was quite brave, quite possibly well past the point where that becomes stupidity. He was much like the Civil War general whose last words were some version of "Look at those fools wasting ammunition. At this range, they can't hit the broad side of..." Since armor is often uncomfortable, and he may not have realized he was in range, it's quite possible he wasn't wearing much armor at the time.
Guest 22nd Feb 2020, 6:35 AM edit delete reply
Bolts fired from a crossbow can be powerful enough to penetrate even decently strong armor, right?

Wasn't it common for generals, army leaders, kings and nobility, etc., to lead their men relatively directly in the pre-gun age?
Oldarmourer 22nd Feb 2020, 8:28 PM edit delete reply
it seems he may have been overseeing the removal of a cache of gold from someone who didn't have as much use for it as the Crown apparently did and got hit by a stray bolt...he wasn't technically in 'battle' so might not have seen any need for armour...of course stories do vary

Reminds me of the elf who meets Frodo and co. when they're being pursued by the Riders in Black. "I'd tell what is hunting you, but you'd be so scared you wouldn't dare continue. I'd help you, but unfortunately I'm going in the opposite direction." Thank you so much.

Now it would be interesting, whether Marigold was so much against Colleen accompanying the party, because she thought she was "annoying" and "awkward", or because of her injury.
Not wanting another girl/the group healer seeing the scars.
Since Alexus only supplies healing potions she might have thought that less invasive than magical healing?
Also she could have lost her trust in the healers which failed to restore her completely.
Varyon 22nd Feb 2020, 8:00 PM edit delete reply
Marigold wasn't the one with the problem with Colleen, although she did apparently find her a bit annoying (when Alexus was being a problem in the sewers, she asked Sera "Why couldn't we just take the annoying cleric girl instead?"). Sera, he-who-has-no-tact, appears to have been the one who hated her, and was probably trying to get the group to replace at least from as soon as they arrived in Marblegate, probably earlier.

Seeing as Colleen's magic can fix old damage, like the helmet that had rusted beyond repair, it may be possible she could fix Marigold's problem, making Sera's kicking her out even worse. I suspect Colleen couldn't fix it yet, however (her spell seems to be somewhere on the Cure Wounds/Heal spectrum, but with the ability to repair objects like Mending/Make Whole at the same time; outright replacing removed body parts seems more like Regenerate, at least if we're going roughly by d20 spells; other systems tend to make a distinction between mere repair and outright regrowth as well).

well he also said he would sell London in a moment if he could find a buyer
Guest 22nd Feb 2020, 8:08 PM edit delete reply
I recall something about elves maturing really, really slowly due to their very long lives.

What if Sera has the maturity and in some regards development of a 14 year old or similar, while still having the body of an adult? I recall something about the relationship between Sera and Marigold being seen as "inappropriate" by some people.

I think you are the closest to the truth of all here. No one so far has tought to ask the question "How mentally old is the elf in human years?"
Guest 23rd Feb 2020, 12:48 PM edit delete reply
Rocktopus mentioned the slow maturing of elves sometime in the past, but it is only with this page that I thought of it.

I think berdhers is right reg. the cultural clash. Great page and webcomic.

... you know, I am beginning to wonder if the whole thing with the padding and the elf breaking the secret and incorrectly dressing like a wood elf is not a con made by both. Like, the elf act like an ass so he can be convincing when he tell the story because they are using the extra padded place in the breast of the poltron to stash small treasures they don't have to share with the group.

I know I am probably getting paranoid but there are author/dm like that who like to pull the carpet from under the readers.

A healthy dose of scepticism and carefulness is generally a very good idea in RPGs and fiction (and IRL :P ).
