It's a freaky extradimensional, randomly expressed, magical dungeon. You never know when your spells will just not work for some reason. always good to have a backup.
Maybe still for the better, would be nasty to be told to take the stairs back alone while the group of jerks teleport out after some fight gone wrong.
Besides that group of jerks may find that they miscalculated a lot. While alchemists are sure great support characters, they still need material components for the potions, time and equipment to mix them (in some games an entire workshop) and they can't render first aid easily during a battle like a cleric with their spells can.
So they may run out of potions in the dungeon, be low on cash for components and get overwhelmed easier in a battle against a swarm of enemies.
And unless they know a battle is coming beforehand, there will not much opportunity to use potions with short duration stat buffing effects.
Although spending people's money for them can...
Does fire have hipster cred? That's what I thought.

Good thing you put that comic relief with the torches there :) So the upper half is very sad and the lower half is very funny :3
